Dean is super nice!
Over the years we have moved many times in the Poughkeepsie area. Never have we had a company that filled all the boxes to be truly five star. They were professional, courteous, knowledgeable about their business, and most important (to me) clean. The drivers were well mannered and spoke to me directly when I had questions, not as I have had in the past, talk down to me like a typical consumer. The group came in, assessed the situation, and immediately went to work ; as I said, true professionals. I would hire them again in an instant and recommend them highly to anyone making a move in the area!!!
I called Your Hometown Mover (YHM) to schedule a move. Service was prompt and friendly, and I was told that there was a four hour minimum (charged at an hourly rate). Importantly, I was told this as a matter of fact, not as something that would change later based on my particular move. So once my inventory was submitted, I naively signed the contract not expecting them to have raised the minimum by 38% to 5.5 hours. This was nearly a $300 difference. Not nothing!
I called my contact at YHM, one of the co-founders. I didn’t yell or curse. I acknowledged that I had signed a contract but that this felt like a bait and switch. So I made what I thought was a reasonable request: could they meet me in the middle and split the difference. I was told that it would be brought to the owner of the company (her brother) and that I’d hear back in a day or two.
Here’s where the story takes a turn.
I never heard back. Over the next month I left several voicemails and none were returned. I called close to twenty times and not even the new customer line would pick up my calls. It always went to voicemail no matter the time or day.
As you might imagine, this left me with the impression that my calls were being screened and ignored. So I tested this theory and tried calling using a friend’s phone (with a different phone number). And do you know what happened? My call was answered the first time…
There was no mention of or apology for the unreturned voicemails, and the co-founder again committed to bring my case to the owner. For two months I sent weekly check-ins and for two months there were no updates, only more attempts at dodging. Finally I was told that the owner had been out of the office for the past two months, a fact that had inexplicably never been mentioned before.
At last, three months after the move, I was put into direct contact with the owner. He never answered for the month of unanswered calls. He claimed that providing a refund was, laughably, beyond his control. In effect, “How can we refund you? We already paid the movers.” And finally he explained how everything was my fault. That people “outside of the industry” don’t understand how moving estimates work. That it was my fault for not calling their Claims department when his sister, a company co-founder, had personally offered to handle my case the day of the move. He said it was my fault for not having read the contract more carefully. This point I gladly acknowledged would have been a fine answer the day of the move, but not now, after three months of dodging and promises to have my case heard—which again, was the very reasonable request to split the difference.
The moving crew themselves did an A+ job. So if they’re all that’s available, rest assured that your belongings will be moved professionally. But if a single thing goes wrong, good luck holding anyone at YMH accountable, let alone doing it in any sort of timely manner.
These are not people you want to work with.

Hometown Movers (Ohioville) came recommended. Their service was excellent. From my first call with Sandra, I knew I’d made the right choice. She walked through the entire house with me (virtually because of the pandemic) was friendly and gave me complete confidence that the move would go smoothly (which it did!). The gentlemen who delivered our items were kind, efficient, and particularly careful with more fragile items.
Thanks to Billy, Parker, and Dean our move could not have been easier and less stressful. Their easy going personality and funny nature turned what could have been a hectic day into a fun and enjoyable move. They moved all of our belongings safely and efficiently. We highly recommend them and will definitely use them again in the future.
The women at the office were great and the crew was fantastic! We moved from NY to SC and found ourselves in a predicament–we were not about to get a certified check (yes that was our fault) but the owner was not willing to work with us with any other forms of payment “just bc”. You think a family run business where you don’t have to deal with corporate would be eager and willing to help resolve issues when a big move is stressful enough. A wire transfer would have been so easy but the owner was refusing. His solution was to bring our items 14 hrs back to NY (charge us) store our items (charge us) and then redeliver (charge us) if we did not have friends in the area we literally would not have been able to afford to get our items back.
Paul, Shawn and Dean were so very professional and helpful with our recent move. They arrived exactly on time and as we were told to expect. The work was done so quickly and the team were very efficient with no time wasted to get the job done. These young men were polite, highly experienced, more than pleasant and really went the extra mile for us. We are very grateful and pleased to have had such a wonderful experience. Logistics and paperwork were also managed very well by Sandra at the office. Thanks to all.
The people who arranged the move were helpful and knowledgable. The movers showed up on time and worked so efficiently that our move went faster than expected and it ended up costing us $400 less than we had expected. I whole heartedly recommend them to you.

The point guy we had, Andrew Woodbury was simply amazing. Super Pro! Clearly he has been doing this awhile. Had all these little tricks of the trade to make for an easier and more expedient transition. Moving can be so stressful, but the positive and jovial personalities helped with that!
Andrew and his crew were punctual and very respectful as well. If you need a professional moving company with fair rates, no need to go elsewhere. Give them a call.
My moving crew Andrew and Josh did an excellent job. They deserve 5 stars. They worked hard and went above and beyond the call of duty given the difficult situation that arose.
When I booked my move on the phone, I explained that we were moving from a two bedroom condo in Brooklyn to a house upstate and that I had a small child and only two days to pack up our 2bd/2bath 950 sq foot apartment to prepare for the next tenants, so I would need full service move, including packing. While on the phone we went through every item in my home: furniture, closets, books, etc.
On the day of the move, a crew of 3 young men arrived, including Andrew, the driver and head mover. After going through the house and explaining what needed to be done, I signed the paperwork, and he said he and his crew would grab the materials and be right back. After 45 minutes when they had still not returned, I got worried and called. He explained that the two young men did not want to do the packing and didn’t realize it would be an all day job.
The company asked if we could reschedule the move for the following day. I agreed and was very understanding, in spite of the inconvenience this caused my family. When I spoke to Jennifer on the phone she said that they would not charge me for the day and would try to add an additional mover to the team for the next day’s move at no charge to make up for the inconvenience.
Andrew had been on the phone with Kate and told me that since he had already driven all the way down they agreed that he should pack for a few hours while he was here to make the next day’s move run smoothly and the company would pay his hourly fee, but I would not be charged to make up for the inconvenience of what had happened. He worked very hard for 4 hours and then left.
There was some miscommunication on the administrative end and I was initially charged for Andrew’s services on Sunday which was very upsetting. However, the owner Jake reached out to me and refunded me for that first day. I really appreciate his working to make things right.
The movers that came to move us were great! Martin, Mel, and Shawn were all very friendly and they made sure everything was done exactly the way we wanted it done! They made moving so much easier for us. I would absolutely hire them again if I needed to!
The movers did not seem like they wanted to be there, not had they gotten training or appropriate gear. I ended up paying hundreds of dollars over quote for three guys to spend over an hour arguing over how to move my furniture and failing multiple times before they figured it out. They did not have the straps that would have made it safer and easier for them to move heavy stuff down stairs. They did not use the protective cloth. The borrowed my tools without talking to me about it. They then left them out in my house. They took down the railing and left it in the middle of the hall. Broke a table that was not part of the move. I thought maybe I would get someone to come back and put the railing back up after I spoke to customer service, but no, just charged me 500 over the estimate and told me to file a cumbersome report with a third party. You would do better renting a UHaul and offering work to the first three people you meet. Using this company was an expensive and very unpleasant mistake.
Martin, Pete, and Mel are great guys. So helpful and willing. They got around a couple tight spots in my old apartment in NYC and dealt capably with the staircase at my new house in Rhinebeck. I recommend them. I also very much appreciated my interactions on the phone with the customer service person Sandra. Thanks team!

From Kate and Sandra to the men that came Martin-Mel and Pete-I had not moved in 25 years ,it was done excellent, the truck was packed safely, nothing was broken, the guys, were very careful, due to going from a larger house to a smaller house, Kate and Sandra were very helpful, I had to cancel 3 times because of my closing date , and were great to reschedule, with saying we cannot do it, a great experience from the office to the movers to finishing at the new house, also the estimate right on the mark.
They ruined my concrete dining table and no one got back to me when I filed a claim. Then they said the time had passed for my my claim to be resolved after no one responded to my claim.
Highly recommend. Smoothest move I ever had – from initial estimate to completion! No surprise charges either. Will definitely use again. Martin, Mel, Matt and Sandra – thank you!!!
Yesterday employees Mel, Joe, Billy and Keith moved my family’s belongings and did an outstanding job. They were professional, personable and made the experience much more pleasurable than if we did it ourselves. We recommend them highly.
Robert, Matt and Keith made our move from New York City to the Hudson Valley virtually stress free. We have moved several times in the past 10 years in New York and this was by far the best service we’ve ever encountered. They were complete gentleman and took care of our stuff as if it were their own.

Moved out of a single family house into a storage unit. Fairly complicated move with a ton of furniture, boxes and fragile items. Kate and Jennifer were awesome with the setting up the move. Martin, Mel and Pete were incredible handling the move. They were on time, professional and went above and beyond to handle all of my requests.

I got a reference of these movers. I contacted them, stating that I needed movers and they responded with some incredible rates. I called them and they were able to book me on one of my requested dates. Two men and a truck showed up. I had to move a bed, two dressers, two chairs, two night stands, two coffee tables, two tv’s, a table, and about 10 boxes. They arrived at my home at 10am and by 11am they had everything wrapped and protected and packed up. They also assisted my mom with bringing a chair from upstairs to downstairs, which I really appreciated.
Matt, Sean & Rob were awesome with helping my wife and I move the other night. Good guys for sure and didn’t break a thing. (To put this in perspective, they showed up with a 28′ truck and I followed with a full 15′ truck). Got the whole job done within about 6 hours. Highly recommend!
Rob, Matt and Masani were a powerhouse team that got my move done quickly and efficiently in a heat advisory! Very friendly and easy to work with, they made my move so much less stressful with their efficiency, expertise and sense of humor. Nothing was damaged and all of the furniture was assembled even better than when they took it apart!
The best home moving company in town. the manager Kate, she is a very Cooperative and she is a good listener I spoke to her on phone for like 15 minutes and explained the job accordingly she selected the cargo vehicle and and send four members for the packing & moving. They all were great very carefully transported my belongings and helped me assemble them back at my new place which was on 3rd floor I recommend these guys highly and I promise to hire them again for my future needs
I booked my move the week before we wanted to move and found the improvised moving boxes to be excellent when they were delivered a few days before our move on the weekend. On moving day, Two men arrived and they were very efficient and the move took less time that we thought it would. The friendly and helpful team made moving house much smoother than the last time we moved. Highly recommended
Keith, Mel, and Joe were AMAZING! They moved everything from our apartment to our new home in under 5 hours, which included their travel time to the destination, breaking down furniture, and rebuilding furniture. Everything was done impeccably and this team was so nice.
When they saw how stressed we were about the number of boxes we paid for versus the amount we had, they worked with us to make sure that all of our items were moved safely and without going over our budget. Their flexibility when it came to moving things between rooms, the shed, and the living spaces was so appreciated, and the fact that they did it all with a smile made this experience even better.
Moving is one of the most stressful and trying times for people and the three of them made us feel confident in our choice. I also want to add how kind and professional this team was—they were such a good natured group to work with. We will definitely be using them again next time we move!

We used Hometown Movers for our longer distance move last week. They were fabulous and made an already long, stressful process so much easier. We had 2 trucks and 6 guys show up bright and early to quickly empty our 3 bedroom house and drive to the new place a few hours away. They kept us on task during the unloading process with us directing what went where while they did all the hard work, and everything arrived in great shape! I had a great experience with Hometown Mover. It started with friendly, professional customer service to give me a quote and talk me through the moving process (Sandra); access to an app to adjust item type/quantity and pay; and an awesome group of 3 movers (Martin, Mel, and Charlie) who were friendly, responsive, and professional. Everything was carefully loaded and unloaded. I’ve moved many times and would recommend them without reservation.

It started with a TV Remote that we thought is missing so I called the company to check, however no response.
Then we realised that everything that was on the TV shelf was missing. The TV remote, TV cable, fire TV Alexa, extension adaptor, apple phone charge, iron, iron board sheet etc.
On top of that the big wall clock. And I sent the list to the team, but still no reply no response on email.
The company employee, Jennifer (whom I reached after 40 mins of struggle on phone) suggests me that these are too many items that we are claiming. First of all nobody replies you or reach back to me, I have to struggle calling back.
I mean such a big company would really play such rude statements for like $200-300 stuff.
The team is who helped us move are blaming us back that we lost the stuff, as my husband was carrying all the loose items from fridge and bathroom, so the team has blamed that we took the stuff on our own and we lost it.
Sad and poor.
The 4-person crew arrived on time all three days…. they were professional, polite, intelligent, and competent. Crew Captain Josh kept things moving right along, and masterminded the logistics so they came out properly. I had a large job, and they got everything into smaller storage space than I had anticipated, which was great. In addition, customer service rep Jen was really flexible and helpful as my buyer’s bank kept pushing the closing back and back. Everybody was cheerful and friendly, which really helps in times of moving stress! I will be using them again!
