If I could give them a zero I would. They were incredibly unprofessional – twice! I used them first time when I was getting divorced and gave them a pass as the situation was less than stellar. Things were broken, badly packed and the driver was incredibly rude and intimidating. I recommended this company to my boyfriend who was moving across state since I also use this company for storage and shipping of furniture for my business, which is interior design. They did an acceptable job on the business side. But this move across state was completely and uttering unprofessional and we have yet to hear anything from this company. Please be aware that IF you encounter any problems they pass you off to a third-party company who’s ONLY job is to make reclaiming damaged goods as complicated as possible and they are a deterrent to seeking claims. Who wants to deal with a company like that when you are in the midst of a move? They also have a 10 limit for claims and my boyfriend was not there those 10 days after the move. They TAPED gold leaf picture frames! They broke the glass on two other picture frames, they broke the frame of an artwork I gave him, they chipped and scratched two pieces of antique furniture, they scratched two leather swivel chairs and they taped the back cushions of the sofa and so there is excessive pilling from the tape pulling in a line like only tape could do. This company was hired to pack, store and move. I seriously suggest you look elsewhere. I will also not use them again for my professional needs.

Still waiting on them to send my $104.70 insurance payment from July 2020 for damage done to a crib. All emails have gone unanswered and so have our phone calls. The move itself was traumatic enough with just two guys struggling to empty a 2 bedroom upstairs apartment and then offload into a townhouse. The guy that’s a marine vet was cool, but the other guy who claimed he was either supervisor or manager was a bit hard on him and also condescending at times. I guess the next step is small claims court.

I had hoped to be leaving a 5-star review and overall they did a good job BUT they broke my QLED TV by careless handing. When I reported the damage I was referred to their insurer who offered me a derisory $8.00 because the insured value was weight-based. Silly me for not realizing that I needed to insure against their poor handling. The TV was only worth about $500 so it is not the end of the world but I cannot recommend them.

Do not use this garbage company. They will give you a quote, pick up your stuff, then when they get to the destination with the truck they will demand double or they won’t unload it. On top of that they destroyed my furniture. Scratched and gashed. They furniture they took apart, they completely stripped all the screws so its ruined. Go with any other company these people are crooks.

I’m so disappointed in this company, I had high hopes as they assured me how professional and great they are, the movers took 8 hours to move my 2 apartment from Poughkeepsie to beacon which is crazy long alone and then they took a lunch break on me without Ofcourse telling me but my management saw them in our surveillance camera and told me they were hanging out for an hour or so, also rode my bike through the hallway of my building and outside ! When they finally made it back, they didn’t have any drills that were charged to install out curtain rods and other things I asked them to also (which they are supposed to) when they put third of the fence I needed installed they just threw their equipment and said they were leaving (I paid them per hour ) and just literally left. And so many things are missing , I moved 2 months ago and discovering almost every day things that are missing,. They WILL NOT REIMBURSE YOU for those items and they stress and rush you to sign a receipt before you even get to unpack anything that nothing is missing, so disgusted! All in all I got back $164 back and I paid $1800! Higher prices than the city for a 2 bdrm! I will never use them again or recommend them. I know a lot of people upstate.

I had a great experience with Hometown Mover. It started with friendly, professional customer service to give me a quote and talk me through the moving process (Sandra); access to an app to adjust item type/quantity and pay; and an awesome group of 3 movers (Martin, Mel, and Charlie) who were friendly, responsive, and professional. Everything was carefully loaded and unloaded. I’ve moved many times and would recommend them without reservation.

I had never used movers before and was very anxious. From Kate in the office to Martin and Mel, I was quickly put at ease by their kindness, understanding, and professionalism. Watching how quickly and efficiently the move went and the care of all my items, I was amazed and extremely pleased. I had a very large new couch that at one point I was afraid wasn’t going to make it through the door, but Martini and Mel figured it out, and even made a few suggestions on furniture placement. My heroes! I would highly recommend using this business.

I booked this moving company well in advance of my move. I spoke with them, gave them a detailed description of all of my furniture, paid a deposit, and received confirmation that I was booked. I have screenshots of the texts stating I was booked. Again, I paid the full deposit. One week prior to the move, I missed two calls from the company. I called them back the day after, and they told me they moved my date to 8 days after the day I had reserved. No notice was provided. Since I’m a renter, I needed to move on my exact date. I tried calling them multiple, multiple times (probably over 20 times), and no one answered the phone. I left messages after messages. So here I am now less than one week before my move, and I have an unresponsive company that took a full deposit from me to reserve my move. I also texted the person who sent me the confirmation of my booking, and she is unresponsive as well. This is not a company to trust, and they have left me and my family scrambling to figure something out.

As soon as Tim, Mel and Keith showed up I knew I was in good hands, all the moving stress disappeared. They were so professional and so concerned about everything that they were packing into the truck. Best of all really liked the respect they showed me and each other.

Once again, Hometown Movers exceeded my expectations and the average/ typical level of service for moving companies. Martin and crew met every challange that arose in the process of moving-not just one- but two refrigerators and several other large pieces of furniture. What was even more impressive was that they did so in torrential rain and in less that the typical designated time allowance! Their professionalism, experience, and friendly attitudes, once again, made my second experience with Hometown Movers as superb as the first! I am looking forward to booking another storeage move before winter.

The owner Kate, and her administrative staff, also coordinated the details without any errors and ensured a stress free move, just as the first in May.

Five stars isn’t enough for the crew and staff at Hometown Movers!

Paul, Martin and Shawn were great! They arrived on time and were very friendly and professional. They were careful but quick and very efficient. Everything from getting the estimate, to booking the move, to actual moving day went smoothly and as planned. Moving can be so stressful and this team made it painless (even pleasant). It’s my second time using this company and they are the best ever. Three employees arrived early and had my entire little house packed and loaded into a POD in 90 minutes flat including furniture disassembly. The POD actually still had a ton of space leftover it was packed so well! Recommend 100%

Did both scheduling and payment remote. On moving day the guys were waiting at storage unit when I arrived. They packed up the furniture and boxes carefully, transported to the house quickly and efficiently. Thank you Tim and team for taking care of my household. I am not a review writer. I’ve written less than 10 reviews in my life. But as I am unpacking my clothes to put in my dresser that was moved by my hometown movers I feel the need to write this. MANY directions given on the phone were not passed onto the movers. I have a VERY old bedroom set and I told them on the phone the drawers CANNOT be removed. My husband was there when they picked them up and didn’t know.They removed them and now they do not close right. They attempted to put them back in but they are still messed up. Told them I didn’t want a mattress bag. they can used a mattress bag (thank god they didn’t charge me). AND the drawers they did remove were placed on top of the dressers which scratched them. NOT done. We didn’t have them put the bed frame together since our floors were just refinished. So a day later we go to put it together and we don’t have all the parts. They call the next day and say that they were in a guys pocket. Day of…I thought wow okay that was great. But then I discovered all of the problems after they left. Not to mention our moving window was 1:30-5:30 and they call at 10 to say they’ll be there in a half hour which completely threw a wrench in our plan. Moving is stressful enough and I was very unhappy with the added stress caused by my hometown movers failure to follow directions and complete the job without mishaps.

My items are missing and no one wants to take responsibility.

One it’s a mission to reach someone to speak.

It started with a TV Remote that we thought is missing so I called the company to check, however no response.

Then we realised that everything that was on the TV shelf was missing. The TV remote, TV cable, fire TV Alexa, extension adaptor, apple phone charge, iron, iron board sheet etc.

On top of that the big wall clock. And I sent the list to the team, but still no reply no response on email.

The company employee, Jennifer (whom I reached after 40 mins of struggle on phone) suggests me that these are too many items that we are claiming. First of all nobody replies you or reach back to me, I have to struggle calling back.

I mean such a big company would really play such rude statements for like $200-300 stuff.

The team is who helped us move are blaming us back that we lost the stuff, as my husband was carrying all the loose items from fridge and bathroom, so the team has blamed that we took the stuff on our own and we lost it.

Sad and poor.

Everything was so professionally handled and made really simple for our local move, from scheduling, getting a quote, and rescheduling, to all the day-of stuff, payment etc. Vince and his crew did an awesome job for us. The 4-person crew arrived on time all three days…. they were professional, polite, intelligent, and competent. Crew Captain Josh kept things moving right along, and masterminded the logistics so they came out properly. I had a large job, and they got everything into smaller storage space than I had anticipated, which was great. In addition, customer service rep Jen was really flexible and helpful as my buyer’s bank kept pushing the closing back and back. Everybody was cheerful and friendly, which really helps in times of moving stress! I will be using them again!

I have used hometown mover several times now this year and couldn’t be happier. Josh has been the team leader for each move – both him and the crew have provided excellent and reliable service. Kate has been our point of contact and she is both responsible and accommodating. Their prices are fair, and most importantly, the job always gets done. Overall, I cannot recommend them enough. I can’t say enough great things about my moving experience with this company. After pricing out a few different companies we decided to go with Your Hometown Mover because of their customer service which made me feel comfortable from the start and then on moving day the crew that showed up couldn’t have done a better job. These guys showed up early, wore masks, were very sweet and took great care of my items. The whole job came way under the estimate which was great and I would absolutely recommend them to anyone moving

Wish I could give them ten stars. Moving is always such a hassle, but with this moving company, for onCe in my life mOving Was actually easy and stress free. Kate gave us a really amazing quote , far better than ofher companies . They were friendly and super organized . The communication leading up to the move was a plus plus. On moving day, our movers josh and Ian, wEre friendly, and FAST. They moved our stuff in great time,, and with great care. As if it was their own stuff, they even put our belongings in the different things in the rooms instead of just in one huge pile . They pretty much didd all the work for us from start to finish and did it w a smile. If u need a moving company I would highly recommend this family owned business !! Kate was a pleasure to work w and the whole team really made moving a great experience. !! A plus plus .. ten starss

I met Jake and his crew this week and was immediately impressed! I work in self storage and am always looking for a company that I can feel comfortable with recommending to my people and I found them. They are friendly, polite, precise, careful, quick, reliable…I could just go on and on. They noticed someone on my property that needed a little help because that person was moving things on their own, and jumped right in! What would’ve taken him 2 hours, took these guys 15 minutes – and all done with a smile! I have a feeling I am going to go through tons of their business cards when someone asks for a mover. I only wish I could give them more stars!

I am highly disappointed – I was given a quote to move from my house. Every time I spoke to the girl the price was different, finally a neighbor moved and paid half of what this company was going to charge. On March 20th I paid the 49 to book my move and on March 21 I requested to have my booking cancelled and refunded. I have now asked 4 times to be refunded. I was told “3-5 business days” it has now been 9 business days since I was told I would be refunded and 11 if Saturday’s are included. Why should I have to give this company money when they didn’t do anything for me?????? Beyond upset………

James Shumaker, the owner, Jake, and Kate, might be involved in a scam or a criminal enterprise. They took out money, booked up a move and now they are unable to be reached or responsible. BEWARE OF THIS SERVICE! DO NOT USE.

I used this company to move my belongings from a place I had rented. Kate had given me a quote of $ 452 to do this move. Fast forward to the day of the move and I ended up paying $300 more on the day of the move. The people doing the move were not careful as I watched them force furniture though doorways and I watched them drop my gas grill, damaging the cover. They did not complete the move either, I ended up renting a truck and moving the rest of my things. Their employees claimed they had stuff on their truck from another shipment, I feel they lied and didn’t either didn’t want to be bothered or didn’t load the truck properly. It appears I’m not the only one who has paid a higher price in the day of the move after reading reviews on Google and Yelp. I had left a review on the companies Facebook page and shortly after Jake messaged me. He pretty much blamed me for rescheduling the move a few times and blamed me for not confirming the rate. He claims the rates had gone up since the initial quote which is hard to believe seeing the amount of the increase and the fact that the move was during the winter. Instead of trying to make things right he chose to block me. They require the final payment to be in cash, this should be a clue that something is not legitimate. When I brought this to his attention he said this was “ industry standard” it’s a shame he couldn’t have tried harder, as I need to have my things moved from my storage unit to a home I am closing on. Mover beware!

I absolutely loved this company. Kate (our account manager) was so helpful and knowledgeable. She provided me with a “Guaranteed not to exceed” flat rate price for my move via a virtual in-home estimate right from my iPhone. On move day, Joshua and the gang wore face masks, sanitized all our surfaces before wrapping all of my furniture and moving it out of my old house. Everything arrived at my new house undamaged and was set up exactly where I wanted it. Such a great experience, This in my opinion, is the only way to move… and to top it all off… I was given a free mug at the end. 🙂
